Bluffing is an important part of playing and winning your poker game. A bluff is a bet or raise made with a hand that has no chance of winning. If you are playing low limit games you might as well forget about bluffing. Someone is sure to call your bets all the way to the river. The most common mistake I see at lower limit games is opponents bluffing too much.
Bluffs work best when you are heads up against a tight player and the pot is smaller. If the pot gets too big a player might be getting the correct odds to call the bet.
Another form of bluffing is the semi-bluff. This is a bet that is made when you don't have the winning hand but have the possibility of drawing to the winning hand. By making the bet you are hoping your opponent may fold and give you the pot right there.
