Poker Tournaments

Single table tournaments (known also as Sit-n-Go)

These are very popular on any site the offers them. The buy in ranges from $1 to > $500 and fees range from 0.20 to $30+. The prize money is usually split by the top 3 finishers with a 50%, 30%, 20% distribution. These typically last 45 minutes to an hour. Generally speaking, the higher the buy in the tougher the competition. Many people play the Sit-n-Go's exclusively and do quite well. Be careful not to sit at a 5 or 6 person table without understanding how to play short-handed. Short-handed games can be quite profitable is you play them correctly. I love to play short handed games at PokerRoom. Most of the people that sit down play the same as they would at a full table. I laugh all the way to the bank when they let me limp with arlo (64o) and I take their whole stack when I flop a monster.

Multi Table tournaments

These types of tournaments are also very popular. from $1 to > $600 and fees range from 0.20 to $60+. The prize money can get quite high and is split among more finishers than the sit-n-go tournaments but is dependent on the number of entrants. These tournaments can last several hours so don't sign up for one of these unless you have at least 3 to 4 hours of time. I've seen some of the bigger tourney's last 7 to 8 hours. The multi table tourney's are much more difficult to win because of the number of entrants but when you win you win big.

They have one of the lowest fee structure on the internet. The Multi table tournaments are active but the top prize money does not come close to some of the other poker rooms. However, don't let that deter you from playing here. While the prize money isn't huge it is easier to win a tournament with a couple hundred entrants than the 1000+ you might find at the other rooms.

Pacific Poker

This poker room has plenty of sit-n-go tournaments active throughout the day. They have one of the lowest fee structure on the internet. The Multi table tournaments are active but the top prize money does not come close to some of the other poker rooms. However, don't let that deter you from playing here. While the prize money isn't huge it is easier to win a tournament with a couple hundred entrants than the 1000+ you might find at the other rooms.

This poker room has plenty of sit-n-go tournaments active throughout the day. The tournaments are some of the best going. Qualify for WSOP, WPT and EPT events for as little as $5. MTT can have large prizes and tournaments are happening 24/7.

Poker Room

Tired of starting with only 800 chips. Play here all SNG and MTT tournaments start at 1500 chips. Plenty of free roll action to be had here as well as many MTT every hour. 

Party Poker

They have by far the most tournaments on the internet. There are literally 100's of sit-n-go's active at any moment. These games can be quite profitable if the correct strategy is employed. Party's multi table tournaments have some of the largest prize pools on the internet. There is at least 3 tournaments a week that have a pool larger than $100,000 and one at least $250,000 (top prize usually > $50000). They offer many satellite's to get in the bigger tournaments as well as WPT, WSOP and other big name live tournaments.

Empire Poker

They share the same server with Party Poker for the ring games but not for the tournaments. However, thy offer the same types of games. Sit-n-go's and multi table tournaments are very popular and getting bigger every month. There is plenty of money to be made at this site as well.

Royal Vegas

Sit-n-go's and multi table tournaments are very popular. There are even 1 on 1 tournaments. They offer several satellite tournaments every month. Great place to play against some aggressive Europeans.
